Woodcarver extraordinare - Oberammergau , Germany


Florian carves on a commission basis. His range of carving is wide. Saints, crucifixes, animals, manger (krip) scenes and much more. He has carved pieces for findividuals as well as churches. Finishes on the pieces can be left in natural wood, or painted. Prices are determined by size and complexity of the subject. Contact Florian by mail or telephone for information.

Florian and his wife, Anna Marie, in his studio which he shares with his father. Woodcarving is a family tradition of several generations.


Florian, who teaches part time, giving a guest at the woodcarving school a tour. The piece he is showing is the work of a talented second year student.

The school offers a 3 year program to students who qualify at no cost other than tools and materials.

Florian's daughter Monica, holding a crucifix that her maternal grandfather carved. He specialized in carving crucifixes.
Monica by the way is an excellent harpist.


Sternsingers.

Each New Year's Eve, children along with adults, sing in the New Year visiting multiple locations in the village and carry paper lanterns with candles. A band accompanies the singers and they carry an illuminated star with the Christ Child depicted on the star.
